Environmental protection and sustainability are very important to us. We are proud to do our bit to protect our beautiful surroundings and at the same time offer our guests an unforgettable stay. Our endeavours to achieve this are part of our corporate philosophy and are put into practice on a daily basis:
100% sustainable energy
Hydropower and photovoltaics
Our energy source is clean and renewable. At our hotel in St. Johann im Pongau, we obtain 100% of our electricity from environmentally friendly hydropower (Salzburg AG) and our in-house photovoltaic system. This allows us to reduce our CO2 emissions and actively contribute to climate protection. This enables us to be less dependent on fossil fuels and minimise our environmental impact.
Energy-efficient technologies
LED lighting, room air conditioning and thermal insulation
In addition to energy generation, we also rely on energy-efficient technologies throughout the hotel. We largely use LED lighting, intelligent room ventilation and thermal insulation to reduce energy consumption. This not only helps to protect the environment, but also enables us to keep our operating costs low, which ultimately has an impact on the prices for our guests.
Dispensing with minibars
To further strengthen our sustainability efforts, we have decided to dispense with minibars in the rooms. Instead of operating separate cooling facilities in each room, we have found a more sustainable solution. In our restaurant, we are happy to provide you with space in our large fridge to cool medicines or other personal items.
Waste avoidance, waste separation and recycling
Reduce, reuse & recycle
Waste avoidance, waste separation and recycling are further important elements of our sustainability efforts. We encourage our guests and employees to actively participate in this process by providing appropriate collection bins in all public areas of our hotel. In this way, we significantly reduce our waste volumes and help to conserve resources.
Largely regional and seasonal purchasing
100% of the meat comes from Austria
We source the majority of our food and products from the immediate vicinity whenever possible. This not only enables us to work more closely with local farmers and producers, but also reduces transport routes and thus minimises our environmental impact. We are particularly proud of the fact that 100% of the meat, milk and eggs we use come from Austria. This decision not only supports local agriculture, but also guarantees high-quality and sustainably produced food on our plates.
We source our products from the following producers, among others:
- Various types of meat and sausages from the Urban butcher's shop
- Fresh fish from the Bluntau Valley (especially on the a la carte menu)
- Organic eggs at breakfast
- Organic honey from the Hinterhauser apiary
- Milk, yoghurt and cream from "Salzburg Milch"
- Organic muesli and organic porridge from Verival
- House wine from Weingut Emil Bauer and other Austrian winegrowers on the wine list
- Schnaps from various St. Johann farmers
- Various breads and rolls from the local bakery
- Beer from the Stieglbier brewery in Salzburg
- Chocolate from the Craiger family business in Fiesach

Our belief in sustainability does not end with our environmentally friendly initiatives and our procurement policy. It also extends to our employees, who play a crucial role in its implementation. We continuously invest in sustainability training and education for our employees. Our entire team is sensitised and actively engaged in integrating the principles of sustainability into their daily work environment.
Through training, our employees learn how to conserve energy and resources, reduce waste and support our guests in sustainable practices. This not only creates an awareness of environmental protection, but also fosters an atmosphere of commitment and responsibility towards our environment. By continuously training and supporting our employees in sustainability, we ensure that our efforts in this area are not just lip service, but are ingrained in all aspects of our hotel operations.
